My name is Elmer Shambaugh. Most of my friends call me Parker (my middle name) and I am a candidate for school board director. I have lived in East Pennsboro Twp. for 14 years residing in the Townes of Floribunda. My wife Dixie and I have a 5 children.
Born on a small farm south of Carlisle, I attended the South Middleton Twp. schools. After graduating from High School I attended Lebanon Valley College graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Following my college experience I attended United Theological Seminary graduating with a Bachelor of Divinity degree. After graduating from Seminary I was ordained as an Elder in the Evangelical United Brethren Church.
After leaving the ministry I worked as a Computer Specialist for the Federal Government. I started my career at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, continued my career at Gunter Air Force Station in Montgomery, Alabama and completed my 37 year career at Mechanicsburg Navy Depot in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
In 2008 we moved to East Pennsboro Twp. where my wife and I have lived a very contented life. We attend Christ Community Church in Mechanicsburg. My wife and I volunteered at Bethesda Mission receiving the “Green Cross” award in 2012 for service to that institution helping those struggling with addition to lead a productive life.
MY GOALS AS A SCHOOL DIRECTOR:
1. I am a traditionalist. As such I believe:
A. Education should emphasize God, Country, and Family.
B. Education should prepare the students to function in an adult society.
C. Students need to understand the structure of our Republic and the responsibilities of the Executive, Legislative and Executive branches of our government and the benefits of our economic system.
2. As school directors we must attract and maintain quality teachers and assist the school administrations in supporting the teachers.
3. Provide a safe environment for the students and staff so that “education can happen”.
Vote Elmer Parker Shambaugh for School Director, 4 year term on November 7!
